| Description of duties |
- The Technical Service Regional Manager reports to the Manager, U.S. Technical Service and is accountable for understanding the short and long term business goals of the region and developing a regional tech service plan that supports the achievement of those goals.
- Understanding the business goals requires providing input to and interacting with the Western Regional Sales Manager, Marketing, District - Managers and Business reps. Additionally, interaction and understanding of longer range plans requires interacting and providing input to - Biology and Regulatory and working with Marketing to maximize business opportunities.
- The Regional Manager must translate the business needs and goals into an overall, coordinated Technical Service business plan for the Region.
- Technical Service Representatives use this plan to develop individual plans that ensure technical support, consistent and proper product positioning and customer interest.
- The Regional Manager is responsible for working with District Managers and Technical Service Represenstatives to ensure proper implementation of tactics and ensure that business needs are met.
- Progress of the group toward objectives, milestones and timelines must be monitored.
- The Regional Manager is responsible for coordinating the development of high quality technical support tools by working with customers (Distribution/Retail, Seed, Consultants, University) to understand their needs.
- Guidance on which customers to concentrate on is to be provided to the Technical Service Representatives, with input from them and District Managers.
- The Regional Manager is responsible for overseeing the careers of Technical Service Representatives.
- Realistic performance objectives are to be set and progress toward objectives monitored and discussed culminating with an end of the year review.
- Each year Technical Service works with BASF Biology, Universities, Seed Companies, Consultants and Distribution/Retail to test and position BASF crop protection products.
- The Regional Manager is responsible for allocating budget dollars within the District that ensures optimum testing and positioning of priority products in key segments.
- The Regional Manager is responsible for ensuring that new business opportunities in the region are sought and fully evaluated.

| Qualifications sought |
- MS and/or PhD degree in technical or business field related to crop protection, such as agronomy, plant science, or weed science. BASF recognizes Institutions of Higher Education that are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent.
- Minimum 5 (10 preferred) years experience in agribusiness.
- Excellent financial and people management skills.
- Excellent knowledge of external customers and competitive products.
- Excellent computer skills and proficient in Excel and PowerPoint.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Willingness to travel overnight/weekly 50%.
- Willingness to relocate to Western U.S, ie. Denver, CO or any other city near a major airport hub.
- Previous people management experience preferred.
- A track record of excellent leadership, judgement, people and interaction skills, and good judgement.
- A strong work ethic, self motivation, strategic thinking and the ability to multi-task.
