| Description of duties |
General Description: Under the general direction of the Research Program Coordinator the Forestry Researcher develops and implements forestry and natural resources programs and projects.
Operational Responsibilities and Duties:
- Plan, develop, implement, and evaluate the forestry and natural resources research program based on local needs and US Forest Service requirements.
- Responsible for ongoing forestry and natural resources research projects -Supervise research assistants associated with projects.
- Evaluate client lands for timber stand improvement and stand enrichment activities.
- Provide technical support for GPS & GIS program development, data collection, and imaging and map development for a variety of applications.
- Provide technical support to the Forestry Program Manager and his/her staff in the areas of invasive species and weed problems in forested ecosystems as they arise.
- Submit all necessary unit, division, college, territorial, and federal reports.
- Publish research findings in local technical reports as well as refereed journals.
- Conduct extension and outreach programs in forestry and natural resources.
- Train staff to conduct forestry and natural resources projects and extension programs.
- Write grants to secure external funding for forestry and natural resources programs and projects.
- Collaborate with other units within CNR, government agencies, and NGOs on forestry and natural resources matters.
- Teach college level forestry and natural resources courses.
- Conduct workshops and seminars on proposed and completed research projects.
- Propose and conduct projects under a USDA McIntire-Stennis Forestry Research Grant.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

| Qualifications sought |
Minimum Qualifications: MA/MS degree in forestry, botany or related field with 5 years of research and/or extension experience. Must have good written and oral communication skills, proficiency in GIS/GPS, and have a drivers license.
Preferred Qualifications: Ph.D. in forestry, botany or related field with three years professional experience. In addition to the minimum requirements, an understanding of the Samoan culture and good Samoan language skills are highly desirable.
