| Description of duties |
Production Specialist - Santa Maria, CA - 1615
Role Purpose -
Execute established seed production plans to assure that Syngenta has a consistent, timely, producible supply of high quality seed, assure successful production of critical genetics of region through active technical liaison with growers, breeders, marketing, logistics, and third party vendors.
Accountabilities -
- Adhere to all applicable HSE and other corporate policies, procedures and guidelines
- Execute all production activities from contracting through harvest and delivery associated with a multimillion dollar vegetable seed business
- Understand species and variety characteristics, seed quality standards, PLC advancement priorities, market priorities, and crop delivery requirements to ensure optimization of seed availabilities, and parent seed execution to optimize field performance.
- Responsible for grower/field selection, production guidelines, and grower relations within assigned area and crop responsibility, crop pricing strategies and year end crop and producer assessments.
- Adhere to company production instructions
- Responsible for contracting, crop monitoring, reporting, harvest scheduling, and grower settlements for assigned area and crop responsibility to attain targeted volume, quality and cost goals.
- Hire, coach, train, and mentor seasonal personnel demands assigned as necessary.
- Work with production research or other specialists to test / implement new production concepts.
- Remain current with latest production technology and develop specialized skills (i.e. systems, data analysis, equipment maintenance, fertility, irrigation mgt., etc.) to support seed growers.
- Assist Production Leaders by accepting special projects or assignments.
- Be proactive in providing support to Global Supply Chain production and conditioning efforts.
- Perform multiple tasks simultaneously through efficient time management and decisive decision making.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

| Qualifications sought |
Critical knowledge:
May require a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience and/or training in addition to the experience requirement.
Critical experience:
Typically requires 2-8 years of related experiences

- Assessments, implementations, and execution of important business strategies relating to consistent supplies of high quality and sufficient quantity seed products.
- Individual skill assessments and developments.
- Creative solutions of cost control
- Proactive professional working relationships with global and regional business partners
- Proactive professional working relationships with seed producing vendors.
- Seed industry liaison
Additional Information -
Physical Demands of The Essential Functions: Combined office and fieldwork activities are involved. The fieldwork requires moderate lifting, good mobility, and some travel.
Working Conditions While Performing Essential Functions: Fieldwork is subject to field environmental conditions such as (dust, heat) and working with and around approved agricultural chemicals and machinery.
