| Description of duties |
GOALS/COMPETENCIES:
- Work with cell biologists to develop new cell manipulation protocols suitable for automation.
- Design experiments to measure and compare the efficiency of alternative plant cell handling protocols.
- Analyze data and present conclusions and recommendations.
- Work with information scientists to define data management needs for the new processes.
- Cooperate with technicians and associates to execute experiments.
- Deliver method documentation and assist with implementation of automated work processes.
- Collaborate with other R&D research groups as a member of interdisciplinary crop team
Global and functional competencies most critical to this job:
Technical Knowledge:
Experience with plant cell culture and the ability to modify culture protocols for different desired end points.
Familiarity with agricultural product goals, and the ability to quickly learn new concepts and processes.
Excellent understanding of aseptic work processes and the ability to apply that perspective to new work processes.
Awareness of process control methodology for high throughput applications.
Interpersonal Effectiveness:
Ability to work effectively cross-functionally with individuals of varied scientific disciplines. Excellent teamwork skills. Can represent self and projects well in both written and oral communications.
Leadership: Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects to completion. Capable of looking at cross- functional needs and collaborating with stakeholders to define new automation opportunities and determine priorities. Interest in people leadership responsibilities.

| Qualifications sought |
Education/Certification Requirements:
PhD in plant physiology, plant biochemistry, or related field and significant hands-on experience with plant cell biology methods.
Job Information and working conditions:
Candidates must have experience with plant cell culture, preferably with crop plant transformation. Candidates should have broad knowledge and awareness of plant physiology and biochemistry; project management experience is desirable. Candidate should have a strong interest in automated or high-throughput research methods to accelerate research progress. Prior experience with automated or high throughput work processes would give a candidate early advantage. Experience with analysis of cell growth parameters and/or with fermentation science would be helpful.
