| Description of duties |
The Research Weed Scientist is responsible for working with a team of herbicide specialists to design, conduct and interpret biology whole organism research with novel herbicides in the laboratory and field.
This work is focused on biological and biochemical testing to support the registration of agricultural and consumer products.
Responsibilities:
- Work safely in a team environment to support Herbicide Development effort by conducting advanced whole organism bioassays
- Work both independently and within a small team with a minimum of supervision
- Create appropriate plans to test experimental hypothesis by identification, planning and organization of resources, including insects, space and time requirements
- Design and conduct moderately complex herbicide evaluations, including various application and evaluation methods
- Collect and summarize data and deliver results and recommendations as oral and/or written reports as required.
- Provide input into new test protocol development and align methods with decision goals
- Prepare and maintain stocks of experimental and commercial herbicides
- Liaison with Formulation Chemists and other Biology team members to effectively advance assigned projects.
- Using equipment, such as track-sprayers and field application apparatus, to analyze effectiveness of experimental herbicide formulations

| Qualifications sought |
Required Education:
MS in Plant Biology or Weed Science with at least 3-5 years experience. Ph.D. in Plant Biology or Weed Science with at least 1-3 years experience.
College course work should include, at minimum, weed science, plant physiology, weed taxonomy, weed control practices, organic chemistry and applied statistics.
Qualifications:
- Experience in conducting laboratory and field study assays with herbicide and conducting studies in weed growth behavior
- Knowledge of life histories of various weed and crop species used in herbicide evaluations
- Effective communication skills, both oral and written
- Ability to use microscopes, balances, pH meter, and other laboratory and field equipment used in herbicide evaluations
- Computer skills: Word-processing, Spreadsheet, Statistical Software, and PowerPoint
- Ability to work in laboratory and field environment and lift 15 kg
- Thorough understanding of laboratory, greenhouse and field safety practices
- General knowledge of agronomy, farm operations and equipment preferred
