Agronomy Marketing Technician - Waterloo, NE - 1567
Role Purpose -
Assist Research Agronomists with research studies on corn and grain sorghum hybrids and soybean varieties. Types of studies include product characterization, product interaction, technology validation, technology efficacy, and general agronomy. Take lead role in supporting farm activities at home research site, including primary tillage, fertilization, seedbed preparation, irrigation, harvest, grain handling, and equipment maintenance. Transport Agronomy Research equipment to off-site research locations and assist with all plot activities involving that equipment. Maintain farm grounds and keep farm shed in good working order. Assist with strip test seed distribution, and packaging of research plot seed as needed.
Accountabilities -
- Assist Research Agronomists with pre-planting study preparations, including but not limited to obtaining seed, creating plot plans and field maps, treating seed, and counting/packaging seed.
- Work with Research Agronomists to plant, maintain, and harvest research plots and bulk crop areas at home station and off-site plot locations. Take a leadership role in implementing routine farm activities such as tillage, soil sampling, fertilizer applications, irrigation, and grain handling activities during and after harvest at home station. Take lead role in transport of Research Agronomy equipment to off-site plot locations. Assist Research Agronomists with planting all plots and bulk areas, applying treatments, collecting in-season data or samples, taking harvest counts, and plot harvest. Help Research Agronomists and part-time summer crew maintain plots and buffer areas.
- Assist Research Agronomists with data analysis and preparation of agronomic reports and presentations. Assist Agronomy Marketing Manager by gathering supporting information and/or data for use in internal and external reports.
- Equipment/Farm maintenance. Research Agronomy equipment must constantly be maintained and updated to insure maximum precision in all treatment applications. This area includes lead responsibility in daily routine maintenance activities and seasonal equipment preparation. Work with Research Agronomists to design and/or design and build new pieces of equipment to improve treatment effectiveness and/or general farm efficiency. Farm maintenance area involves any activities related to land and building maintenance, including but not limited to keeping the equipment shed in good working condition, maintaining the farm grounds, mowing, and snow removal.
- Personal development. Attend Company sanctioned and/or outside source agronomic events and/or personal development and communication skills training seminars as agreed upon with Supervisor.

| Qualifications sought |
Critical knowledge:
- BS in Agronomy or related field.
- Knowledge of farming equipment, it’s operation and adjustment
- Clear understanding of the practices and procedures that affect trial data precision and accuracy.
- Ability to attain Class A CDL
- Knowledge of current agronomic practices used in corn and soybean production
Critical experience:
- 1 - 3 years experience in agriculture.
- Experience in the operation, adjustment, maintenance of, and ability to do minor repairs on various plot equipment, including planter, tractor, cultivator, sprayer, combine, truck and trailer.
Critical technical, professional and personal capabilities:
- Ability to obtain a CDL operators license and transport farm equipment to off-site research locations.
- Ability to effectively operate a forklift and a wide variety of farm equipment.

Working Conditions / Physical Demands
PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF THE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- This job involves working outside for a majority of the growing season and will require long hours during peak seasonal periods. Field work involves operating a wide range of farm equipment of multiple sizes. Growing season work can be physically demanding and requires ocassional lifting of up to 60 pounds. Travel of up to 30% of time is required during the growing season; minimal travel should be expected during the remainder of the year.
WORKING CONDITIONS WHILE PERFORMING ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Working outside occasionally involves exposure to inclement weather conditions. Pesticide application a required element of work tasks and use of suitable protective clothing is required, regardless of weather conditions or personal comfort preferences.
