Location Sparks, GA Salary 66,000+ Closing date of competition 02/14/10 Date position available Immediate Description of duties This position is for a Research Station Entomologist who will support FMC's Agricultural Products objectives and operations at the Sparks research station. The individual in this key role is responsible for working with a team of scientists to design, conduct and interpret biology whole organism research with novel insecticides in the laboratory and field. This work is focused on biological and biochemical testing to support the registration of agricultural and consumer products RESPONSIBILITIES: This key role will work safely in a team environment to support Insecticide Development effort by conducting advanced whole organism bioassays. Work both independently and within a small team with a minimum of supervision. Create appropriate plans to test experimental hypothesis by identification, planning and organization of resources, including insects, space and time requirements. Design and conduct moderately complex insecticide evaluations, including various application and evaluation methods. Collect and summarize data and deliver results and recommendations as oral and/or written reports as required. Provide input into new test protocol development and align methods with decision goals. Prepare and maintain stocks of experimental and commercial insecticides. Maintain insect colonies to ensure robustness of testing samples. Liaison with Formulation Chemists and other Biology team members to effectively advance assigned projects. Using equipment, such as track-sprayers and field application apparatus, to analyze. Qualifications sought EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: MS in Entomology. At least 5 years insecticide experience, field plot/trial experience. Experience in conducting lab and field study assays with insecticides and conducting studies in insect behavior Effective communication skills, both oral and written. Ability to use microscopes, balances, pH meter, and other laboratory and field equipment used in insecticide evaluations. Word-processing, Spreadsheet, Statistical Software, and PowerPoint Ability to work in lab and field environment and lift 15 kg Thorough understanding of laboratory, greenhouse and field safety practices. General knowledge of agronomy, farm operations and equipment preferred.
