Description of duties The appointee is expected to conduct vegetation management research in highway rights-of-way and provide Outreach to KYTC personnel in training meetings. The grant sponsoring this project has the following specific research objectives:
  1. evaluate weed management techniques, including herbicides, for controlling weeds on sites deemed important by KYTC;
  2. evaluate techniques for weed management during the establishment and maintenance of wildflowers and other desirable plant species;
  3. other issues that might arise.
Outreach objectives are:
  1. provide training on proper calibration and application of herbicides to KYTC personnel that apply herbicides; and
  2. provide training for continuing education credit for pesticide application certification.
The appointee will be responsible for establishment of research plots, data collection and summarization, and report writing. The appointee will work under the supervision of William W. Qualifications sought The minimum qualification for this position is a M. S degree in Weed Science or closely related discipline. Experience in herbicide evaluation under field conditions is essential. An understanding of statistics and good written and oral communication skills is desirable.
