| Description of duties |
As irrigation water becomes more limiting due to availability and urban population growth, new irrigation management practices need to be developed.
Creating methods to monitor crop water use and response to water stress is vital to maximize water use efficiency.
The objectives of this research project are to understand how the plant responds to water stress, and for measureable responses that could be used to help schedule irrigation and predict yield declines.
In addition, weed management is a critical component of maximizing water availability to the crop, and one of the objectives of this position is to increase our understanding how water availability
affects weed growth, development and response to management practices. A successful candidate needs to have knowledge of plant physiology and responses of plants to stress as
well as a good agronomic background in crop production.
The position will involve both field and laboratory components. A successful candidate will be required to conduct independent research
and to manage a field program involving irrigation and crop production.
