Description of duties The Department of Plant Sciences invites applications for an 11-month extended term track position in Agronomy to be based at the University of Wyoming Sustainable Agriculture Research and Extension Center (SAREC) located in Lingle, WY (http://uwadmnweb.uwyo.edu/UWEXPSTN/SAREC.asp). Responsibilities of the position include service (75%), research (20%), and professional development (5%). The successful applicant will be expected to fulfil service responsibilities by assisting research at SAREC by Plant Sciences faculty. This service includes agronomic/field plot research of different agronomic and forage crops, harvesting, data collection, data analysis, and data reporting. Additionally, the successful candidate will have opportunity to pursue his/her own research projects consistent with the departmental expectations. Professional development for this position would include participation in scietific conferences, field days, special training, and advanced course work. The successful candidate will report to the Head of the Department of Plant Sciences.
Qualifications sought Applicants must possess a postgraduate degree (MS or PhD) at the time of hire in Agronomy or a closely related field, have highly effective written and oral communication skills, and be able to deliver science-based information to diverse audiences. Candidates with relevant experience will be preferred. Moderate lifting (~60 lbs) may be required and ability to walk fields and work long hours during peak seasons. Computer skills and a basic knowledge of agricultural machinery operation is desirable. Although not essential, experience in publication and chemical application (or willingness to obtain a license soon after hire) will be plus.
