Description of duties Inventory and map invasive weeds in rugged steep terrain in the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest, National Parks, and BLM managed lands in Utah and Colorado. Work schedule requires 10-hour days, 4 days per week. A typical work schedule will consist of 4-5 consecutive 10-hour days per week. Crews will be at the work site for 3 consecutive weeks at a time. Crew members will camp on location during each weekly work period, and will need to provide their own camping gear. A university vehicle will be provided for on-site use and travel between Logan and the work location. A living allowance will be provided while working away from Logan.
Qualifications sought Weed identification, topographic map reading, mountain orienteering, and GPS operation. Must be able to hike at least 50 miles per week alone in mountainous terrain. Must have a valid U.S. driver's license and must meet USU’s defensive driving certification requirements. Preference given to applicants 1) with weed inventory and mapping experience, and 2) having completed university courses in plant identification, weed science, plant taxonomy, and ecology.
