Description of duties The Department of Horticulture and Crop Science at The Ohio State University invites applications for Assistant Professor and State Extension Specialist in Soybean and Small Grains. The position is a 12-month, 75% extension and 25% research appointment located on the main OSU campus in Columbus, OH. A detailed position description is available online at http://www.hcs.osu.edu.

The successful candidate will be expected to establish a nationally recognized extension and research program focused on soybean and wheat production within sustainable cropping systems.

The specialist will provide statewide, regional, and national leadership that supports and strengthens the work of the Ohio State Univ. Extension and Development’s Agronomic Crops Team (http://agcrops.osu.edu) in developing and disseminating information and technologies aimed at improving agronomic crop production systems.

The specialist will interact with crop producers, industry representatives, and producer organizations including but not limited to the Ohio Soybean Council, Ohio Wheat Growers Association, and Ohio Small Grains Marketing Program.

Research areas may include but are not limited to: resource-efficient and environmentally compatible cropping systems, crop stress management, cropping system response to climate change, nutrient and water use efficiency, evaluation of transgenic traits, seed treatments, grain quality and use, and production practices for emerging food-grade uses and bio-based industries.

The specialist will supervise the Ohio Soybean and Wheat Performance Testing Programs (http://www.ag.ohio-state.edu/~perf/) and be expected to advise graduate students and attract extramural funding to support research and extension programs.
Qualifications sought A Ph.D. in Crop Science, Agronomy, Plant Sciences, Weed Science, Crop Physiology, Crop Ecology, Crop Modeling or related field is required. Effective oral and written communication skills are essential and experience in outreach education/training and applied research is highly desirable.
