Description of duties The Office of National Programs (ONP) of the Agricultural Research Service (ARS) of USDA, Beltsville, Maryland, invites applicants for a full-time permanent Deputy Administrator ($119,554-$179,700). The ONP provides national scientific and technical leadership for program planning, coordination, review and evaluation activities for the Agricultural Research Service (ARS) programs. As Deputy Administrator, Crop Production and Protection, the incumbent actively participates with the other Deputy Administrators, Associate Administrator, ONP, and other officials to identify the researchable problems and opportunities for advancing scientific knowledge across all areas of agricultural research. The Deputy Administrator has lead responsibilities for programs in crop production and protection. The incumbent recommends research priorities which are supportive of the most effective and efficient use of manpower, facilities, and funds, while solving problems important to U.S. agriculture.
Qualifications sought Applicants must meet mandatory qualifications, as specified in the vacancy announcement (ARS-SES:10-03) and address specific executive core and technical qualifications. A doctoral degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resources management, or allied disciplines pertinent to the work of the position to be filled is desired.
