| Description of duties |
The mission of the Herbicide Discovery group is to discover new herbicide active ingredients qualified for commercial development. The Principal Investigator provides strong biological technical results and leadership to this process.
The Herbicide Discovery principal investigator generates extensive biological results through a series of tiered screens and special tests, interprets and reports the results and works closely with synthesis chemists, biochemists
and environmental scientists in a team environment to optimize lead area chemistry. Development, validation and implementation of new screens will complement these activities.
The successful Principal Investigator will have (or acquire) a good understanding of current and evolving weed control practices in multiple market regions and crops and will apply this knowledge
to the assessment of new herbicide analogs and lead areas. The principal investigator will generate greenhouse and field biological results and integrate this information with mode of action, environmental fate,
crop and weed metabolism and other topics generated by others on the team to discover superior new product candidates.
The position calls for active networking with DuPont regional field development specialists and marketing teams as well as strong interactions with the academic weed/crop science communities.
Opportunities exist to actively participate in national meetings, publish in refereed journals and travel to field sites worldwide.
