Description of duties The Department of Plant Pathology, Physiology, and Weed Science at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia seeks applications for a tenure track position in Invasive Plant Ecology.

This position will be at the Assistant Professor level with a majority research appointment. The successful applicant will develop a nationally and internationally recognized, extramurally funded research program in weed ecology.

Research focus should be on understanding the mechanisms that contribute to invasiveness and persistence of weed populations, and may include such issues as weed/crop competition, allelopathy, herbicide resistance, gene flow/introgression, microbial interactions, adaptations to climate change, and risk assessment of novel engineered or biofuel crops.

Teaching responsibilities will include training of graduate students and primary responsibility for undergraduate and graduate courses in weed science. Collaboration with research, teaching, and extension weed science faculty is expected.
Qualifications sought The candidate will have a Ph.D. in Weed Science, Agronomy, Horticulture, Biology or related discipline, and expertise in conducting field, greenhouse, and laboratory research. A record of publication indicative of the potential to establish and maintain a productive research program is expected.
