| Description of duties |
Colorado State Parks has 6 month temporary positions available for 40 hour per week, as internships or entry level positions. The positions are based in Fort Collins. There are no health benefits, but employees are eligible to contribute
to a 401k program and the state PERA retirement fund, and overnight trips will be reimbursed according to state travel policies, and a state vehicle will be provided.
These positions are a great entrance into the Conservation Biology and GIS working worlds in the beautiful state of Colorado. The job will primarily be preparing GIS data and maps for a park management plan.
The technician will also be responsible for conducting research on biological and geophysical aspects of the park and writing reports and summaries on various aspects.
There will also be a field component using GPS to map facilities and resources on parks. The position will also assist with volunteer coordination, GIS and biological research needs for the Raptor Monitoring Program within Colorado State Parks.
This position requires fast paced work, and the ability coordinate with a team of individuals. Administrative, scheduling and filing tasks will make up 10-20% of the work. |
| Qualifications sought |
Applicant should have a background in wildlife, botany, forestry or natural resources management or planning, or geographic information systems and have 1 year or more or more of work experience using ArcGIS 9.x.
Use of GIS in an educational setting can be substituted for 6 months of GIS work experience. Experience with MS Office and ESRI GIS software products is required, and experience with Trimble GPS products is also helpful.
The applicant should be physically fit and willing to hike and camp and have own camping equipment (tent and sleeping bag). Applicant must have (or obtain) a valid Colorado Driver’s license. Applicant should have good written and oral communication skills. |
