Description of Employer The Northwestern Agricultural Research Center (NWARC) is a part of the Montana Agricultural Experiment Station headquartered at Montana State University. The center has responsibilities for conducting research and educational programs for agricultural producers in western Montana.
Location Kalispell, MT
Description of Location The Northwestern Agricultural Research Center consists of 200 acres, 130 of which are irrigated. The major crops include cereals, forages, peas and canola. The center is well equipped with modern field plot equipment, laboratory facilities and greenhouse space. The center is located 10 miles from Flathead Lake, the largest fresh water lake in the western U.S., and 45 miles from Glacier National Park. The area features a wide range of outdoor summer and winter recreational opportunities.
Salary Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Description of duties The individual will support the integrated weed management and small grain cultivar evaluation programs. The successful candidate will participate in the design, establishment, and maintenance of field studies, the application of treatments including herbicides, data collection, and the analysis and summarization of research results. Duties also include the operation and maintenance of field and laboratory equipment, greenhouse culture, and the supervision of part time and seasonal labor. The individual must be able to work with a wide variety of constituents, be self-motivated and be able to work without close supervision. Some in-state travel will be required.
Qualifications sought Required -
  1. Masters of Science (M.S.) in Weed Science, Agronomy, or closely related discipline OR a Bachelors of Science (B.S.) in a closely related discipline plus substantial research experience.
  2. Experience in agronomic field plot techniques including experimental design, data collection and statistical analysis.
  3. Experience in the use of IBM-PC compatible computers and Word, Excel, Power Point, and SAS software programs.
  4. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Preferred -
  1. Research experience relating to weed/crop ecology, integrated pest management, or plant breeding.
  2. Knowledge of cereal-based cropping systems.
  3. Have an established scientific publication record.
  4. Ability to work cooperatively with research faculty, producers and co-workers.
