Description of duties Project Name: "Renewable Mulches for Integrated Weed Management in Small-Scale Crop Production"

Description: We are seeking a highly qualified and motivated candidate wishing to pursue a M.S. degree in weed ecology and crop science/horticulture. The successful candidate will be part of a team with expertise in weed science, horticulture, and crop physiology developing integrated weed management strategies for small-scale growers in urban environments. The student will conduct research to develop mulches prepared from recycled newspaper and plant residues grown on-site that control weeds effectively, and are sustainable, cost-effective, user-friendly, and improve soil quality. The research will be conducted in the laboratory and greenhouse, and in raised bed production systems for intensive vegetable and fruit production at the Ohio State University and on urban farms and community gardens in Columbus, Ohio.
Qualifications sought Academic Fields: Weed Ecology, Horticulture, Crop Science, Sustainable Agriculture

Applicants should have a B.S. degree with background in biology, plant science, agronomy, or horticulture. Experience with horticultural crops and a strong interest in integrated pest management and urban agriculture is desired.
