Description of duties The Technical Sales Representative is responsible for executing sales initiatives, which maintain and/or increase business at current accounts, while recommending solutions and future courses of action to increase business. This includes development of account strategies. This territory has primarily an herbicide, insecticide, seed treatment and fungicide market with .5MM+/- acres of potatoes and .5MM+/- acres of corn and include roughly $9M in annual sales. Among other opportunity areas, the territory holds great promise not only for incremental sales of current products such as Admire Pro, Temik, and Gem but also our new innovative products such as Huskie, as well as several other new products to be introduced.

The incumbent is the focal point for all projects/activities related to assigned/prospective accounts. The Technical Sales Representative is responsible for identifying new opportunities, developing accounts related to those opportunities, expanding the use of Bayer CropScience products, as well as servicing existing customer accounts and maintaining customer satisfaction at those accounts. End user, retailer and distributor representative relations are the main focus.
Qualifications sought An MBA is preferred, however candidates with a BS degree in agriculture, business or a science baccalaureate, with a minimum of 5 years of proven sales experience will be considered. Previous Crop Protection Manufacturer or Distribution Sales experience would be a plus, but not required.

Incumbent must possess advanced understanding of sales/marketing techniques. Knowledge of agriculture, farm markets, seed and application technology is a plus but not required. The position requires good organizational and planning skills as well as excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written). Incumbents must be willing to work as a member of a team and contribute to a group objective. He or she must possess advanced persuasive abilities and negotiation skills in order to influence current and potential customers to Bayer products. Other qualifications include having demonstrated computer skills and ability to work with MS programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc), Lotus Notes and other database programs.
