Description of duties We seek a highly motivated candidate to coordinate a 3 years project that will
  1. investigate the role of wheat viruses in mediating crop-weed competitive interactions and
  2. assess regional variation in weed and wheat germplasm susceptibility to three mite-transmitted wheat viruses.
The project involves field, greenhouse, and laboratory work. Greenhouse and laboratory activities will include mechanical transmission of viruses, mite transmission of viruses, ELISA, PCR, and associated tasks. Field duties include plot establishment and maintenance, measurement of variables, and data analysis. Further duties include supervising and graduate and undergraduate student, development of appropriate experiments, collection and analysis of data, interpretation of results, formulation of conclusions, and documentation in a final written form.
Qualifications sought A PhD in weed science, plant pathology, ecology, entomology or a related field. Field and laboratory research experience is required. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and computer skills including the ability to analyze data with the appropriate statistical models is required. Candidates with the ability to multi-task and careful attention to detail are preferred.
