Description of duties
  • This is a full time Coordinator, Research Programs Services position located in the Food and Environmental Toxicology Laboratory in the Food Science and Human Nutrition Department, College of Agricultural and Life Sciences at the University of Florida. This position serves as the Southern Region Field Coordinator for Interregional Project No. 4 (IR-4), entitled "A National Agricultural Program to Clear Pest Control Agents for Minor uses". This position is responsible for all coordination of field projects in the Southern Region.
  • Incumbent will interact frequently with faculty at UF, faculty at other institutions, employees of the state and federal governments, individuals in the private sector and the national IR-4 program and interact frequently with stakeholders to identify pest management voids for growers in the Southern Region and facilitate the submission of IR-4 Project Clearance Requests (PCR). Work with others in the IR-4 Priority Setting Process to ensure that high priority needs for the Southern Region are adequately addressed.
  • Seek and secure contact with Field Research Directors (FRD) at the IR-4 Field centers and private contract sites to conduct field trials. Make site visits and/or frequent communication with FRD's to ensure that field sites are adequately supported to conduct acceptable residue trials under Good Laboratory Practices (GLP). Review field centers Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and provide Quality Control (QC) audits for all field sites in meeting GLP standards for the program.
  • Prepare grants to various grower, state and industry groups for additional funds to help support IR-4 activities in the Southern region.
  • The IR-4 Southern Region Field Coordinator aids in decision making processes concerning general field operations and budget including funding for research centers.
  • Complete other regional and secretarial tasks (i.e. word processing, copying, faxing) that assist Southern Region activities.
Qualifications sought
  • Minimum qualificvations are a Master's degree in an appropriate area of specialization; or a bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of appropriate experience. PhD degrees accepted.
  • This position is highly independent but reports to the Director of the Southern Region program. Prefers a candidate that works with minimum supervision and is a self starter.
  • Prefers a candidate with a degree in an agricultural science and field experience.
  • Candidate should have a strong background in agriculture production, pest control methods and general agricultural field procedures. Training and experience in GLP's is necessary, must demonstrate good organizational skills and superior interpersonal skills. Candidate must have experience or understanding of SOP's and how to prepare and update them.
  • Incumbent must be able to communicate with study directors at IR-4 Headquarters, other regional coordinators, chemical company representatives, and any other personnel with an interest in specialty crop production.
