Description of duties Monsanto Company, based in St. Louis, MO, is a leading global provider of technology-based solutions and agricultural products that improve farm productivity and food quality. As a Fortune 500 company, Monsanto has been ranked as one of the top ten employers in the biotechnology industry by "Science" Magazine and currently we seek a motivated, innovative and energetic Biotech STATION FARM MANAGER who will administer a facility in Western Ohio/Eastern Indiana. This facility will serve as a field-testing network hub for both corn and soybean and in this role the candidate will provide leadership to a full and part-time staff that is focused on field plot research and seed management.

In this role the candidate will:
  • Oversee site-wide leadership across farm/field operations
  • Maintain activities which include: assuring adherence to Monsanto and USDA guidelines for handling and testing transgenic crops and doing these task at the highest regard for safety
  • Provide project and functional leadership across facilities for one or more traits and/or enabling activities
  • Maintain a holistic view of field research that includes an understanding of the interaction of environment, genetics, traits and timing of data collection on crop growth development and yield
Qualifications sought The successful candidate must possess:
  • MS or PHD degree in Agronomy or related field required with some agricultural-related experience desired.
  • Self-motivated, demonstrate leadership, exhibit good management and supervisory skills and possess effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Good organizational and computer skills are essential
  • Relevant experience to manage a multifaceted facility
  • General understanding of field plot research and seed management and ability to understand how this knowledge affects tactical and strategic objectives of biotechnology, Trait Development Pipeline and the Farm Team are important
  • People management experience required
  • Basic knowledge of crop production and farming practices
  • Possess an ability to communicate with a diverse set of stakeholders
  • Excellent computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office and the ability to quickly learn company data management programs will be a must
  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects to completion *Position will require some travel with overnight stays and hours required to complete job will be reflected by seasonal peaks
Desired experience/skills:
  • Working knowledge of OSHA VPP
  • Knowledge of Six-Sigma or Lean
