Description of Location The city of Powell, WY is a progressive rural community of approximately 5,300 residents (http://www.powellchamber.org). Powell is located in the Big-Horn Basin of north-central Wyoming, 75 miles from Yellowstone National Park. Description of duties Responsibilities of the position include research (50%), extension (40%), teaching (5%) and service (5%). The successful applicant is expected to develop an externally funded program in applied agricultural research, build an innovative extension program relevant to agriculture in northwest Wyoming, and teach an irrigation science class once every other year via outreach education technology. Recruitment and training of graduate students is expected as a part of these programs.

Research activities for this position should have relevance to forage, sugar beet, dry bean, or seed production in northwestern Wyoming. Research relevant to the use of new and alternative crop varieties is especially appropriate, including the adaptation of perennial forage grasses for dual use as either forage or as biomass for cellulosic ethanol. Extension duties of this position include providing expertise to growers on irrigation methods, soil fertility management, alternative tilling and cropping methods, and new crop varieties in northwestern Wyoming, including GM crops.
Qualifications sought Applicants must possess a PhD in Agronomy or a related field at the time of employment, have highly effective written and oral communication skills, and be able to deliver science-based information to diverse audiences. Candidates with relevant post-doctoral experience and a strong record of peer-reviewed publication and grant procurement are preferred.
