| Description of duties |
A faculty position with emphasis on conceiving and implementing sustainable, diversified, and profitable cropping systems for Illinois that provide
important environmental services. We seek an outstanding early career scientist who will foresee research and teaching needs in the future of Illinois agriculture.
The successful applicant is expected to develop a nationally recognized research and teaching program in cropping systems and crop ecology.
The ideal candidate will become part of a broad, dynamic and well established faculty in agriculture. It is expected that the successful candidate
will participate in and provide leadership to projects that will integrate different research areas, preferably at multiple levels of scale, within the
department. The research program will be externally funded, and should focus on innovative approaches to diversify Illinois cropping systems, to improve
sustainability and profitability of crop agriculture, and to document and decrease negative, off-site effects of such cropping systems. Potential areas of
research include integration of forage-based and or cover crop components into current cropping systems to enhance resource stewardship and cropping sustainability
on certain landscapes; and optimizing current row-crop systems to improve yields while minimizing both inputs and environmental negative effects. The incumbent
is expected to teach courses in crop production, forage and grassland management, and agroecology. There will be an opportunity for modifying existing
courses or developing new ones that will reflect the successful candidate's expertise. |
| Qualifications sought |
A Ph.D. in agronomy, crop sciences, or a related discipline is required. Post-doctoral experience is desired. The successful applicant must demonstrate excellent
interpersonal and communication skills; demonstrate clear desire and ability to propose, conduct and report independent and team-based research; and demonstrate
desire and ability to develop an excellent teaching program.
