Students studying in the Weed Ecology Lab at PSU enjoy a strong applied weed ecology and management core set of faculty and students and an equally strong group of quantitative ecologists through an interdisciplinary graduate program in Ecology. Location University Park Campus, University Park, PA Description of Location The campus is located in the Appalachian Ridge Valley physiographic province. The landscape is dominated by predominately dairy farms in the valleys and deciduous forests on the forested ridges. The campus is large (42,000) students and strong program in Agricultural, Earth and Biological Sciences are highly integrated. Closing date of competition February 29, 2008 Date position available Start date: anytime after 8/1/08 Description of duties The student will join a small team (4) of USDA National Needs Fellows focusing on the ecology and management of invasive plants. Students will be a part of a graduate training grant intended to prepare a cadre of students capable of assessing the impacts of invasive plants, quantifying qualities of invasion resistant communities and devising workable management strategies to address this threat. Qualifications sought Strong academic credentials in one or several of the following areas: weedy plant ecology, botany, quantitative ecology and management. Also looking for students willing to challenge themselves with a rigorous ecologically oriented (and quantitative) curriculum.
