Description of duties This position is a one year industrial post doctoral position that has the option to be renewed for a second year. This position is part of the Discovery Biology R&D group. In conjunction with Discovery Biology Leadership and Project Leaders, the incumbent shall conduct investigative biological and biochemical experimentation to define technical attributes and scope of product positioning for new pest management technologies, including chemical and biotechnology solutions.

Primary responsibilities may include:
  • Assess technical attributes of new weed management technologies and determine their utility to fill market needs. Develop and test product concepts that fit into global and regional markets.
  • Conduct research to characterize and assess physiological and biochemical attributes of herbicide tolerant traits in various crops. Evaluate their utility in comparison to traditional weed management options.
  • Conduct research to understand, and provide solutions to, chemical activity barriers, including plant, cultural, formulation, and edaphic factors.
  • Design and conduct all experiments such that the attributes of conventional and transgenic technologies are captured for intellectual property procurement and publication.
Qualifications sought The position requires a Ph.D. in Plant Physiology, Biochemistry, Biology, or a related discipline with knowledge and/or experience in weed science. The Postdoctoral Research Associate should have educational and research experience in plant genetics, molecular biology, and pest management. The candidate must demonstrate the ability to independently manage research trials as well as demonstrate the ability to work effectively on a team. Desired skills include:
  • Pest management training or practical experience
  • Strong understanding of plant physiology, biochemistry, and organic chemistry
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Good understanding of crop protection traits in agronomic crops
  • Experience with analytical instrumentation and/or radiotracer experimentation
